Nurturing Beauty through the Arts

The Fine and Performing Arts Department at Trinity Christian Academy exists to nurture beauty, glorify God, and bless others through choral and instrumental music, drama, dance, and the visual arts.

We seek to advance creativity through hands-on instruction by delivering an accessible, inclusive, and meaningful curriculum. Our goal is to give students an opportunity to be intellectually informed, well-prepared for their future careers in any art form, and live a God-filled life with creativity and beauty.

Fine Arts at the Lower Campus

Art

Early Learning Art

PreK–Grade 2 focuses on fostering creativity and imagination. Students practice and develop their fine motor skills and learn to pay attention to detail.

School of Grammar Art

Grades 3-5 learn about artists of the time periods they study in history and create their own imaginative expressions of art that imitate the styles of the masters.

Music

Early Learning Music

Our students in PreK-Grade 2 focus on listening in order to match pitch, exploring patterns of rhythm and movement, and singing a wide variety of types of music.

School of Grammar Music

Grades 3-5 progress in their learning about the language of music by practicing what they know about notes, rests, dynamics, and rhythm; they learn more about melody, chant, and the Solfege Method.

Theater Arts

Drama club offers workshops for 4th and 5th graders throughout the fall semester, doing exercises on character building, movement, using our voice, listening & reacting, stage directions, and discussing set, costume, and make-up design. Students who participate in Drama Club are invited to audition for the Lower Campus spring play.

Extracurricular Arts

Trinity Singers

A vocal group of students from the School of Grammar, who perform at various events throughout the school year

Instrumental Groups

Small groups of students who meet after school to learn guitar, violin, or a band instrument in a small group setting

Cafe Nights

Evening performances of musical pieces and dramatic presentations by individuals, small groups, and choral groups from the Schools of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric

Fine Arts at the Upper Campus

Art

All students in grades 6-9 take art, learning artistic techniques and styles of historical times and completing projects of varying genres. Elective courses Art II – Art IV are avenues for students in grades 10-12 to practice and develop skills in memory drawing, creative composition, and quick sketch.

Chorus, Band, and Instrumental Ensembles

In grades 6-9, all students participate in a musical group of their choice, including chorus, band, or instrumental ensembles. Students learn musicianship in the context of a group and perform in concerts for the school and community.

Theatre Arts

Elective

High school students can elect to take Theatre Arts and learn techniques of acting, dancing, and the components of producing a show.

Plays and Musicals

Students in the Schools of Logic and Rhetoric can audition for a part in our Upper Campus fall play or our spring musical productions.

Cafe Nights

Evening performances of musical pieces and dramatic presentations by individuals, small groups, and choral groups from the Schools of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.

Cafe Nights

Cafe Nights are an opportunity for Trinity students to express their passion for performing arts. This night showcases student talent in music, drama, and visual arts. Our students always blow us away with their talent and love of art!

The Thespian Society

Commitment to theatre is what the International Thespian Society is all about. The Society was established in 1929 at Fairmont State College, Fairmont, West Virginia, by Dr. Earl Blank, who was then the director of dramatics at the high school in Casper, Wyoming; Dr. Paul Opp, a member of the college faculty; and Harry Leeper, a teacher at East Fairmont High School.

They named their organization the National Thespian Society for Thespis, the Greek who, according to legend, was the first actor. Their guiding principle was a dedication to excellence in theatre arts in secondary schools. Seventy-one schools became charter members of the society. The first national convention and election of officers were held in 1930. From this modest beginning, the organization enjoyed steady growth, and in the next five years, the membership had increased to 320 troupes. The national office was moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1935. By the time the Society had celebrated its 50th anniversary, there were 3,190 troupes on its rolls.

Students from Trinity Christian Academy were inducted into the Thespian Society in the fall of 2021.
