Headmaster Update - January 10, 2019

Family and Friends of Trinity,
Happy New Year! I hope 2019 is off to a great start. My resolutions are holding strong 10 days in, which is an accomplishment for me!

As we begin a new semester, I want to take a moment to give you a full update on Trinity and inform you of some really exciting developments. I have a lot to share, so be sure to read to the end (HINT: I saved the best for last).

Survey Results

Thank you so much for participating in our ‘listening tour’. I want to assure you that your voice was heard! Overall, we were pleased to learn that satisfaction is VERY high at Trinity. From faculty to families, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. But like any institution, there is always room for growth, and your constructive thoughts have helped us learn where we need to improve. Much of what follows is in response to your thoughtful opinions.

New Website and App

One of the repeated comments was for Trinity to grow in the area of communications, and we agree. We are very excited to announce that this month we will be unveiling our new website. Not only is it aesthetically impressive, it will be very informative, both for the community of Lexington and for our Trinity family. Additionally, we have been working with one of the leading education app companies in the country to develop our own personalized app for our school. It will be unveiled next month, and it is going to revolutionize the way we do communications at Trinity.

Creative Marketing

Another thing that stood out in your feedback was not just how much you enjoy Trinity, but how much you want others in Lexington and the surrounding areas to discover it. The phrase “Lexington’s best kept secret” came up more than once. While we do believe Trinity has grown in its recognition, we agree that we must be thinking creatively about how to continually grow our presence and mission. Rest assured, we will never compromise the quality of Trinity’s education for the sake of growth, but we do currently have room to grow our enrollment (and there’s always a waiting list).

Throughout the winter and spring, you will notice new marketing initiatives, but I want to make you aware of one in particular. One day each month this semester we will be hosting a new Admissions Open House during the actual school day where we will be offering prospective parents a catered lunch and tour of Trinity. The first open house day will take place on January 23. We would love for you to personally invite anyone you think might be interested as well as share the news on social media. By way of incentive, you will receive a $500 discount on next year’s tuition for any new referrals that enroll!

Classical Education

When asked about classical education, it was very clear that this was something you valued but also something you struggled to articulate. As Lexington’s only accredited K-12 classical day school, we need to continue to grow in both our understanding and implementation of classical education. To help everyone better understand the advantages of the classical model, we are going to be releasing a video this month where I personally outline the basics and benefits of the model. To help us in implementation, we are bringing in the best of the best as a consultant.
Eric Cook is the Executive Director for the Society for Classical Learning (SCL), a national organization dedicated to making classical Christian schools thrive. Eric brings a breadth of experience in the classical Christian school movement. He provides leadership and teacher trainings as well as advocates for the movement in a myriad of settings. He has visited and consulted schools all over the U.S. In God’s good providence, Eric is a native of Lexington, and we have become good friends. I have asked Eric to come to town and provide his consulting services, and he is excited to visit us. That visit will be taking place at the end of this month. I have one small request that will help us make the most of his consultation. He would like everyone to take a one-question survey. I repeat: only one question!  He believes this is the best matrix to determine the health of any institution. Please click the button below to answer that question:

Brannon Property

Finally, regarding your feedback on the construction of our new school on Brannon Road, overwhelmingly the response was to simply get the thing built! We are with you on this, and the board made the decision to step out in faith with a goal of raising $2 million (the amount required to break ground) by the Spring Gala. This was a big prayer request, but as it turns out, our God is bigger. The day after we set that goal, I was given a pledge of $2 million!!!
There are many exciting implications to this amazing news, and you will be hearing a lot about what it means, including the potential of building more than just phase 1 (the Upper School). But for now, let me communicate with certainty what we have all been desperate to hear. The board has approved moving forward with the project, and the necessary steps to build are already in motion. We are anticipating breaking ground in August of this year, with the goal of moving into the new school in the fall of 2020. The Lord has made our dream a reality…praise His name!
Make no mistake, this generous gift (the donor wishes to remain anonymous) was given as a challenge to all of us. If we all match this level of sacrifice, then there is a very real possibility of building far more than we ever expected. Again, you will be hearing much more from me on this in the near future, but for now, join me in giving thanks to our great God!

As you can see, the new year has brought with it so much excitement. These are good days to be a part of the Trinity family, and our best days are ahead. Please join me in praying for God’s continued blessings on our school.
Yours in Christ,

Robert H. Cunningham,
Interim Headmaster, Trinity Christian Academy
